Ten individuals sentenced of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of circulating untruths regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has yet to be released.
A longstanding unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons initiating a libel case in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the first lady's identity.
Their lawsuit alleges that Owens ignored any factual proof disproving her claim choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has regularly repeated these allegations on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would risk all her credibility on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
